Dwelling Coverage

Protects the physical structure of your home from covered perils like fire, wind, and vandalism.

What is Dwelling Coverage?

Dwelling coverage (Coverage A) is the foundation of your homeowners insurance policy. It covers the cost to repair or rebuild your home's structure if it's damaged or destroyed by a covered peril.

This is typically the largest portion of your homeowners insurance and should be sufficient to completely rebuild your home at current construction costs.

What Does Dwelling Coverage Include?

House Structure

Walls, roof, floors, foundation, permanently installed fixtures, and structural components.

Built-in Appliances

Built-in dishwashers, ovens, HVAC systems, water heaters, and other permanently installed appliances.

Attached Structures

Attached garages, decks, porches, and any structures physically connected to your home.

Plumbing & Electrical

Built-in plumbing, electrical wiring, and heating/cooling systems.

How Much Coverage Do You Need?

Your dwelling coverage should equal the cost to completely rebuild your home, NOT the market value or purchase price.

Replacement Cost Coverage (Recommended)

Pays to rebuild your home with materials of similar kind and quality at today's prices.

Extended Replacement Cost

Provides 25-50% more coverage if rebuilding costs exceed your limit.

Guaranteed Replacement Cost

Pays the full cost to rebuild regardless of your coverage limit (most comprehensive).

Average Cost

Annual Premium (Dwelling Portion)

$800-1,400/year

Typically 60-70% of total home insurance cost
